Once Upon A Time

By Design Fruit Vinegars was created by a chemical engineer and foodie, husband and wife team.  Yep, she's the engineer.  Born out of a passion for wine and food.

Cooking with some of the big brand fruit vinegars, I was often disappointed—the ones I tried just didn't taste right.

​

So, we (Melinda and Bill) began to ferment fresh fruit into ciders, no water, no grape wine base, just fresh fruit and its juices.  We learned along the way that fresh fruit is hard work, and time sensitive.  We also learned that it takes a lot of figs to make a gallon of vinegar.  However, Cooking with these vinegars offers endless possibilities to enjoy new and complex flavors across the entire menu.  So, we invite you to explore and experiment for yourself.
